Berry Beauty Stops Traffic

Beautyberry3Pedestrian traffic, that is. This beauty berry (Callicarpa dichotoma) planted along the street is attracting more attention than the blooms of summer ever did.  Early in the season it didn't look like much but from now into the winter, this guy's a winner.  I'll be on the look-out for some bird action.

Ooooh, yeah, I want one. Have you tried cutting a branch and putting it in a vase? I just wonder how the berries would hold up with cut flowers. Saw a lot of these in Texas this summer. Don't see them much in my part of northern CA, but I'm gonna give them a try.

I love my Beautyberry! I did cut a branch in late August and put it in a vase. The leaves curled up and fell off almost immeduately, but that just left the gorgeous berries to shine on their own. I poured out the water then so the stem would not rot. At this point, the berries are drying out but still keeping their color fairly well and not falling off. Will see how it lasts thru this winter & naybe next year cut more to make a wreath.

I am from far away Africa, so I have no way to get some seeds to grow it. They are so beautiful. I have a garden of my own in my house, small but I love what i have and speak with them and I am nature lover. I don't have a garden blog, but I do post pics of wild flowers from Africa at times. You are welcome to in my humble blog.
You have a nice blog here. I will be back when I have time.
I don't think that you ever had a visitor from Africa, that makes me unique.
